A healthy gut means that there are more good bacteria than harmful bacteria in your gut and that harmful bacteria do not overtake the good. The balance of bacteria in the gut flora can lead to many health benefits, including reducing inflammation that can lead to so many different illnesses and diseases. Amy Spindel is a functional holistic nutritionist with a mission: to help kids and adults fix their guts so they can thrive without digestive distress. Amy applies a multidisciplinary approach to her work, exploring and supporting body, mind, and spirit to determine and then provide recommendations around rebalancing the root causes of clients’ digestive and other health issues.
Amy’s support addresses a wide variety of symptoms and imbalanced body systems, from gut health to mental health, autoimmunity to allergies and food sensitivities, hormone imbalances to metabolic dysfunction, and more. She received her masters in holistic nutrition from Hawthorn University with additional training and certification from the School of Applied Functional Medicine and mentorships with Drs. Liz Lipski and Jason Hawrelak. She also holds a masters in social work from Columbia University, and previously practiced as a behavioral and family therapist in home based and outpatient settings. She is Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition and has also achieved the sought-after Applied Functional Medicine Certification, with additional credentials in safe dietary supplement use, gluten-free diets for wheat-related disorders, and the culinary and pastry arts.
Amy owns Food With Thought Nutrition, a fully virtual practice that consists of a team of functional nutritionists and health coaches based out of Plano, Texas. She additionally serves on the clinical education team at the School of Applied Functional Medicine and is the staff nutritionist for Phoebe, a virtual support platform for pregnant and postpartum moms. Amy enjoys hiking, cooking, gardening, spending time with family, traveling, playing board games and the flute, and studying the wondrous world of gut microbes.
